Capital Fund Campaign Feasibility Fund Executive Summary

JHM & Associates completed a capital fund campaign feasibility study for Palm Lutheran Church.  This study was conducted to determine the potential to seek funds to implement the first phase of demolition and reconstruction to the church facility as approved by the congregation.  To read the entire study, click on Executive Summary above.

 
 
Easter Food Collection for Caring Cupboard February 28th through March 28th Palm Lutheran is supplying for 30+ families.  Food items needed:  corn, green beans, any dessert mix (cakes, icing, brownies, pudding, etc.), sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, applesauce, red beets, and Easter candy
 
 
Friendship Circle Thursday, March 11th ― 1:30 p.m. in the Church Parlor ― Ted and Winnie Hermanson will be talking about their Swedish heritage.  We should see some interesting pictures and hear some fun stories.  Members and friends are welcome!
 
 
Pysanky Night ― Saturday, March 13th ― 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall

Please sign up on the sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the Narthex.  This Ukrainian Folk Art is an ancient ritual of the Easter Season that we have been practicing here at Palm for six years now!  Bees wax and dyes will be provided.  You will need to purchase a kistka, raw eggs (room temperature - at least 2 or 3) in a carton for easy transport, a taper candle with a stand, an old hand towel or  t-shirt which can/will be ruined, cheap paper towels, a few rubber bands of varying widths that will fit snugly around your egg, and a few sections of newspaper for padding and table protection.

The Lebanon Valley Brethren Home Communion Service will be held on Monday, March 22nd. All services begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Home's Chapel.  Volunteers are always needed to transport our members who attend the service.
 
 

New Sunday School Class ― Starts March 28th ― "Caring as a Christian Community in Today's World"  ― Offered on the 4th Sunday of each month starting in March

The class is sponsored by our Stephen Ministry Program and will focus on tools that each one of us can utilize in our daily lives.  Each week's lesson will center on scripture that guides us in our love and care for each other.  Together we will explore these topics that will enable each one of us, as we go our separate ways during the week, to be strengthened to live our lives as caring Christians.

 
 
Choir Rehearsal Schedule ―                                                                          Under the direction of Steven Inners and Suzanne Fox and assisted by Wayne Fox.
  • Children's Choir (Kindergarten-Grade 5) ― Begins Sunday, 9/13, 5:45-6:15 p.m. and rehearses weekly; Children's Choir sings on the 2nd Sunday of each month at the 10:30 a.m. service and at both services on festival occasions.
  • Youth Choir (Grade 6-Young Adult) ― Begins Sunday, 9/13, 4:45-5:30 p.m. and rehearse weekly; Youth Choir sings mostly at the 0:30 a.m. service and at both services on festival occasions.
  • Bell Choir (Youth and Adults) ― Begins Wednesday, 9/9, 6:30-7:15 p.m.; Bells play at both services once each month.  There is currently 1 opening in this group; let Steve Inners know if you are interested as there are specific requirements.
  • Youth Bells (Grades 4-12) ― Begins Sunday, 9/13, 11:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. (immediately after the 10:30 a.m. service); Youth Bells play every other month at the 10:30 a.m. service.  There are currently 2 openings in this group; see Steve Inners for information on what is expected.
  • Sanctuary Choir (Adults) ― Begins Wednesday, 9/9, 7:45 p.m.; Sanctuary Choir sings at the 10:30 .am. service each week and at both services on festival occasions.
  • Women's Chorus (Adults) ― Begins Wednesday, 9/16,  7:20 p.m.  and rehearses each Wednesday in alternating months (September, November, etc.) ; Women's Chorus (the Sanctuary Choir form the core of this group) sings on the last Sunday of the alternating months.  This is a good opportunity for women who enjoy singing but can't make a regular commitment to the Sanctuary Choir.
  • Men's Chorus (Adults) ― Begins Wednesday, 10/7, 7:20 p.m. and rehearses each Wednesday in alternating months (October, December, etc.); Men of the Sanctuary Choir form the core of this group and sing on the last Sunday of the alternating months.  This is a good opportunity for men who enjoy singing but can't make a regular commitment to the Sanctuary Choir.
  • Instrumental Ensemble ― As scheduled.  There are a number of instrumentalists that we would like to utilize more often.  Please let us know of your interest and skill level as we are trying to organize several ensembles to play throughout the year.  We anticipate many more opportunities this year for players so please direct questions to Steve Inners.
 
 
Join us for P.E.P. (People Exercising for a Purpose) in the Parlor ― Mondays ― 10:00 - 11:00 a.m..     A once-a-week exercise class designed for EVERYONE!  Fun ... fellowship ... conversation while you exercise gently!  If you have any questions, please contact Teresa Keller, RN, PN @ 329-8507 or e-mail parishnurse0407@aol.com.
 
 
The Parenting Sunday School Class meets in the Library during the Sunday School hour.  Topics discussed will to help you grow in your faith.
 
 
Sunday Church School ― Sunday at 9:15 a.m. (8:30 a.m. Summer)
  • Pre-K, Kindergarten and Grades 1-2 ― meets on the second floor; they will study the Seasons of the Spirit, which is an Augsburg Fortress curriculum
  • Grades 3-6 ― meets in the Fellowship Hall, north-side; they will study the Seasons of the Spirit, which is an Augsburg Fortress curriculum
  • Grades 7-8 ― meets on the second floor in the south-side classroom; they will study the Faith Incubators Confirmation Program
  • Senior High (Grades 9-12) ― meets on the second floor north-side classroom; they will study current topics chosen by the group and how these topics relate to their lives as Christian teens
  • Adult Parlor Class ― join Pastor Merkel for a study of Saint Paul's letter to the Romans entitled, Making It Right.  This is a seven or eight week overview of the Epistle ― Saint Paul's most thorough discussion of God's saving work in Christ
  • Adult Augsburg Bible Study ― meets in the Chapel; this class utilizes the Augsburg Bible Study booklet and will help you discover the living word; this material is lectionary-based
 
 
Christian Parenting Class  All parents, with children of any age, are encouraged to attend.  Learn not only about your children and how best to deal with their behavior but also how to bring Christian beliefs and values into this most important job of parenting.  Most appreciated, however, is the caring, sharing and support of each other!  If you have any particular questions before the class begins, feel free to contact Joyce Wherley (867-2796) or Jen Marron (831-0636).
 

 

Shawl Ministry needs folks who like to knit or crochet to make shawls for those who may benefit from the comfort of a handmade shawl.  Contact Patty Van Scyoc at 832-1337 (pvanscyoc@verizon.net) or Teresa Keller for details.
 
 
Palm's Sewing Group meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  You do NOT need sewing experience to help us, only a willing heart!  Please continue to give us your old sheets, blankets, and fabric pieces so we may continue to make blankets.
 
 
The Caregiver's Support Group meets monthly on the 4th Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Church Parlor.  Join us if you have a concern that you need support for or talk about your loved ones you so lovingly give care to. If you have questions or concerns, please call the Church Office at 838-3311 or Phyllis Thornton at 867-1270.
 
 
Palm Cook Books are now available in the church office.  The cost is $14.00 and proceeds benefit the Capital Fund.
 
 
Church Directories are still available in the church office.  There are enough for each family who sat for a picture.
